Sweet syndrome is a very rare inflammatory skin condition characterized by a sudden onset of fever and painful rash on the arms, legs, trunk, face, or neck. It’s also known as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis.
Reddish-blue/violet papules, plaques, or nodules with massive subepidermal edema which can form bullae and ulcerate. Mucosal involvement also fits.
Screen for underlying (hematologic) malignancy and rule out infection. CBC, CRP/ESR, LFT, ANCA, urinanalysis, biopsy. Sweet’s syndrome typically responds to prednisone rapidly.
